Many women with oily skin have experienced their makeup not lasting longer than a few hours, no matter how hard they try to make it different…
The reason is that oily skin is quite challenging to work with, and most women don’t realize how much that oiliness actually affects the final result of their overall look.
Whether it’s the unflattering shine that appears during the day or makeup that slides off your face, oily skin problems are common, but fortunately, they’re not unsolvable.
And in the next few minutes, you’ll discover what will enable you to easily achieve any makeup look you want and make it long-lasting on oily skin, even if you’re a makeup beginner.
Oily skin requires a special approach when applying makeup, and many women unknowingly make mistakes that sabotage their makeup look.
Besides the common problems we often mention like not knowing your skin type, choosing wrong products, and improper blending, there are other mistakes that women pay less attention to.
Many women use products that additionally “suffocate” oily skin.
Harsh products can cause the skin to produce even more oil, which quickly builds up under makeup and leads to smudging, color loss, and uneven complexion within the first few hours.
Women who apply too much powder to “set” their makeup end up with messy and “heavy” makeup that doesn’t look natural and ruins confidence throughout the day.
While women who use too little powder leave their skin insufficiently protected, and then makeup starts to “slide.”
The middle ground is key.
Primer is oily skin’s best friend. It creates a barrier between your skin and makeup, preventing oil from “ruining” your effort.
Unfortunately, many women completely skip this step, resulting in skin practically “eating up” the makeup, making the look fade faster.
If heavy and creamy foundations are used, there’s a greater chance your face will look oily after just a few hours.
Foundation that isn’t formulated for oily skin will additionally burden it and cause oil to seep through the makeup, meaning the foundation melts on your face…
…and worst of all, this always happens at the worst moments like during work, walks, or evening outings.
In an effort to avoid shine, women excessively use mattifying products.
But the truth is that excessive mattifying can cause the opposite effect because the skin then produces more oil to compensate for the feeling of “dryness.”
The good news is that oily skin can look flawless with the right approach, and here are several tips for that:
Hydration is key even for oily skin. Using hydrating products formulated for oily skin helps control oiliness throughout the day.
Choose mattifying primers that will help you control excess oil and extend makeup longevity.
Always look for foundations designed for mattifying and shine control, especially those that are lightweight and don’t clog pores.
Set your makeup with powder, but don’t overdo it. Focus on the T-zone where oiliness most commonly occurs, but don’t “bury” your entire face in powder.
Instead of excessive mattifying during the day, use blotting papers to absorb excess oil.
This will help you maintain makeup freshness without adding an additional layer of powder.
Many women make unconscious mistakes that affect the final makeup look on oily skin even when carefully following a routine.
Some of these are:
Women often touch their faces throughout the day, usually unconsciously. This transfers oil from fingers to face and contributes to faster makeup smudging.
Makeup brushes absorb oil and product residue. If not cleaned regularly, they will apply products unevenly, sabotaging makeup right from the first application.
In stressful situations, many women apply more products than necessary, thinking this will extend makeup longevity.
But this actually only burdens the skin and leads to faster oil breakthrough.
To make makeup last all day, it’s crucial to stick to a routine, use appropriate products, and pay attention to unconscious mistakes.
Of course, as I always say, the more we practice, the better and more experienced we become, and this way we’ll develop intuition and know exactly which products to use as well as how and how much to apply them to achieve perfect makeup on oily skin.
