One of the biggest myths in the makeup world is that you need expensive high-end products to achieve a perfect makeup look…
Unfortunately, many women believe this myth…
And how could they not? We’re bombarded from all sides with advertisements, influencers, and trends pushing luxury brands, leaving us with the impression that these products are the only way to achieve a flawless look.
But that’s far from the truth…
I’ve lost count of how many women have asked me in bewilderment, “I bought this expensive product, but when I applied it, the look didn’t turn out how I wanted – why is that?”
That’s because achieving a perfect makeup look requires more than just expensive products, and in the next few minutes, I’ll reveal one of the biggest misconceptions about makeup that causes women frustration…
…and I’ll show you how to consistently achieve a flawless makeup look with affordable products.
Because of all the advertisements, posts, and videos we see on social media about certain products, we think that if we buy that product, we’ll easily achieve the same look being advertised.
Many women have tried this only to end up disappointed…
They thought it was all about the product, ignoring the most important part of makeup: technique.
Of course, products play a role, but to make that product look good, you need good technique.
That’s why I always advise all my students, both those who come to me for in-person training and those in my online makeup school, that the biggest mistake in makeup is blindly following influencers and trends.
What you see in their videos won’t necessarily look the same in your case because there are many factors that affect the outcome that aren’t even mentioned in those videos.
Most women start applying products immediately when doing their makeup, but this is a mistake that leads to disappointment with the final look…
The reason is that before applying any makeup, we need to know our skin type… this is the most crucial step that determines how our makeup will look in the end…
That’s why the first thing I teach my students in both in-person training and online courses is how to determine their skin type or their client’s skin type for those who want to pursue this professionally.
How a product “sits” on your face depends exclusively on your skin type, which means if we use a product that doesn’t match our skin, chaos ensues…
For example, if we put a product designed for oily skin on dry skin, there’s a high chance the makeup will break down during the day…
Many women overlook this aspect or don’t even know about it thanks to various trends and videos they watch online…
…especially when following advice from influencers who, in most cases, don’t have the same skin type as they do.
That’s a recipe for disaster, both for your look and your wallet.
As you can see, expensive products aren’t a magic wand that creates a perfect makeup look every time you wave it…
But the right product combined with good technique is the recipe for a perfect makeup look.
That’s why the first step in makeup is knowing your skin type or your client’s skin type if you want to work in this field…
Because when you know your skin type or your client’s skin type, you can choose products that suit that skin type…
And when you use products that match the skin type, you’ll find them very easy to blend and achieve a makeup look that you or your client are satisfied with…
The best part is that once you learn these things, you’ll be able to choose quality but affordable products…
This means you’ll save money that you would otherwise throw away trying various expensive products that you eventually realize simply don’t suit your skin type…
Good products and proper makeup technique go hand in hand…
Just as you’ll choose products based on the skin type of the person you’re making up, you’ll also apply those same products using appropriate makeup techniques.
That’s why it’s important to learn different makeup techniques like shadow blending, foundation application, contouring, drawing precise eyeliner, etc…
All these techniques require time and practice, and unfortunately, there are no shortcuts we can use to improve our makeup skills except practice…
This is something I constantly tell my students in both in-person training and online school…
And if you follow this advice, you’ll see how each new makeup application gets better and better, and how you become more satisfied with your work…
And if you can get suggestions from an experienced mentor who will evaluate your work, point out what you’ve learned, and guide you on what you still need to practice, you’ll shorten your path to makeup mastery…
That’s one of the reasons why we created the first mobile makeup learning app in the Balkans for our online makeup school…
…and within that mobile app, we have a special mentorship section where our students share their work with us and receive suggestions about what they’ve learned and what they still need to practice…
They also have access to a chat where they can communicate with us and other students daily. There, we share additional makeup tips and product recommendations…
All of this is aimed at making the learning process easier and faster for our students…
